Yoni Eggs 101: What They Are & How They’ve Supported My Journey

You’ve probably heard about those unusual yoni eggs – but maybe you have no idea what they actually are or how they work. It definitely doesn’t seem like a standard everyday practice like showering or brushing your teeth, right?

They have changed my life and the lives of many others around the world, so I want to share my personal insights and what I’ve learned along the way.

Why so many of us are struggling with pelvic floor & sexual wellbeing

We’re all aware of Kegel exercises and pelvic floor muscles, but many women experience things like vaginismus, polycystic ovaries, endometriosis (just to name a few). These experiences can be linked with sexual difficulties and pain, disassociation, tension and numbness inside the vagina, making it unbearable to have sex or self-pleasure. This is becoming more common every year.

What are yoni eggs?

Yoni eggs have been practiced for centuries as a tool for strengthening, awakening and connecting with your yoni and cultivating yin/yang energy. The practice originated in China, where queens would use a jade egg to help keep them feeling youthful, fertile and vaginally strong.

“Yoni” is the Sanskrit word not just for the vulva, but for the creative energy and potential inherent in every woman.

My personal journey with yoni eggs

I have used yoni eggs for years now and noticed a huge contrast in my own sexual pleasure. Before, I suffered from chronic vaginismus (vaginal tightness), which made it unbearable to experience any kind of penetration with my partner or during self-pleasure. I ended up relying on clitoral orgasms as my only source of pleasure.

Now, I’m able to experience internal pleasure and G-spot orgasms. This shift was so profound that it inspired me to start my own business to help support other women in changing their sexual experiences, just as mine has changed.

Important note: Everyone’s body and history are unique. Yoni eggs can be one supportive tool within a wider journey of healing, therapy, medical support and somatic work. They’re not a “quick fix” or a replacement for professional care.

Yoni inclusiveness & self-responsibility

Many of us have had uncomfortable or traumatic experiences in our lives that have impacted our relationship with our body, including our yoni. This can show up as vaginismus, tightness, tension, numbness or pain inside.

For me, part of healing was taking self-responsibility to work with a crystal egg as a way of empowering myself sexually again and gently engaging with my pelvic floor, rather than ignoring it altogether.

Asking for permission & consent

Before using a yoni egg (or anything – tampons, pleasure wands, menstrual cups), it’s powerful to pause and ask: “Is my body a yes right now?”

You can do this by placing your hands on the entrance to your vagina and asking for consent from your yoni. This can be a nurturing and empowering practice for a woman to experience, and over time can help rebuild connection with your yoni and pelvic floor. Many women find they feel more sexually empowered, more orgasmic and more connected with themselves through this kind of conscious practice.

Don’t overdo it

Some companies recommend wearing your yoni egg all day or even sleeping with it in. Like all practices, yoni eggs are best used in moderation.

  • Over-exercising your pelvic floor muscles can cause them to become very tight or strained, which can lead to painful intercourse.
  • Leaving a stone in for long periods may also increase the risk of infection (such as toxic shock syndrome), which can be serious.

For beginners, I generally recommend using your egg for around 15–20 minutes a day and, if aligned for you, gradually building up over time. Always listen to your body and speak with a qualified health professional if you have any concerns.

Cleaning your yoni egg

It’s important to clean your yoni egg properly. Crystals are porous by nature, which means bacteria can be harder to remove if they aren’t cleaned with care.

  • Use a dedicated, body-safe toy sanitiser or a mild, fragrance-free soap and water.
  • Clean your egg both before and after use.
  • Avoid boiling your yoni eggs – some crystals can crack or be damaged by intense heat.

By keeping your yoni egg clean, you can reduce the risk of infection and focus on the potential benefits of working with this ritual tool. If you ever notice irritation, unusual discharge or pain, stop using it and check in with a healthcare professional.
